Commercial Risk: Retailers braced for spike in cyberattack risk

According to VikingCloud’s 2024 Holiday Cyber Threat Survey, the risk of cyberattacks is heightened during the Christmas period due to staffing pressures. Half of respondents state that employee shortages and high turnover in their IT teams during the Christmas period, allied to limited internal IT resources, make it difficult to keep up with advancing cyberattack techniques.

In addition, retailers are more vulnerable when they take on seasonal workers. According to the survey, 46% of retailers are onboarding seasonal workers with minimal cyber training. Further, 78% receive no social engineering training, 56% no internet safety training, and 56% no mock phishing practice.
